I’m returning to work tomorrow after being on medical leave for about two months (severe burnout, emotional breakdown from toxic/abusive relationship, breakup, antidepressant withdrawal, etc). I’m undiagnosed but highly suspect I’m on the spectrum. I’m an engineer and work in an office setting in a cubicle, seated, mostly on a computer. I have conference room meetings here and there which tend to be the worst for me if I’m feeling sensory overload and/or anxiety. Here is my list of tools and accommodations I have planned for my return:
- special glasses to counteract the nightmare florescent lighting
- noise canceling headphones to dampen background noise and listen to music/podcasts
- frequent breaks to get outside, move my body, etc
- small fan at desk to keep air moving when office gets stuffy
- plenty of snacks to keep blood sugar stable
- small Lego set at my desk to give me something to play/fidget with when I need a quick engagement with a creative special interest
- wear comfy clothes and shoes
Anything else that you think would help or have helped you? Thanks in advance!!
