Context: I (and others) hear and experience a lot of microaggressions at work, and it is being investigated.
The head HR person said “diversity looks different to different people and everyone has their own personal belief systems…” when responding to our conversation about the lack of diversity and cultural awareness at work.
This gave me the vibes that some identities aren’t really safe at work bc someone could use their “personal beliefs” against them. Like I’m imagining some evangelical person complaining about something that’s a protected class like using they/them pronouns or men constantly talking over women, and their behavior being seen as acceptable since it’s their personal belief. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. So, I feel like there’s a better way to say what she was trying to say but can’t figure out what it would be. I’m also wondering if she would have made the same comment if I wasn’t also a white, feminine presenting person.
Also wondering if I interpreted what she said correctly. What do you all think she meant? Is there a better way to say what she meant?
