Hey all... this question is slightly ACD specific, but could likely have been posted in any dog forum. I have an ACD who is a little over 3 years old. She was a rescue that I picked up at 8 weeks, but possibly due to her circumstances, she is very fearful and avoidant. I'll admit, I have been a bad rescue mom when it comes to training. She knows tricks/basic commands/fully housebroken etc, but she has always been extremely fearful about the leash, so she has never been properly leash trained. We have a large yard where she gets plenty of exercise, but the dog is terrified to leave my front door, put a harness on, put a leash on, go on walks, etc. Even when we make some progress on walks, it seems like she refuses to go to the bathroom. The problem is... my living situation may be changing, and I may have to move into an apartment soon. So, smaller space.. and this dog does not know how to go to the bathroom on a leash. Id only consider an apartment that has a dog run area where she can get some considerable off leash time, but she also doesn't have a ton of social exposure to other dogs, besides those that belong to family members, and I don't know if she will be comfortable using the bathroom in those spaces. Is formal training my only option? This could be coming up within 4-6 weeks so Im not sure that I have enough time to make effective progress myself. HELP. Please and thanks!
Edit: Pic for extra attention, but also to showcase the leash problem - ears back, tail tucked, heavy panting, trying to hide herself in the couch
