AS THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS, THIS SENATE MUST ELECT A PRESIDENT.

Senators have 24 hours to either nominate a senator, or propose themselves.

If there is more than one nomination, the we shall proceed to a secret ballot to elect the President. Honourable senators, please keep in mind the qualities that are of great benefit to the senator who takes the Chair. A senator should:

• Be an active participant in AustraliaSim,
  
• Have a sound understanding of the procedures of the Senate,
  
• Be familiar with the Standing Orders, and
  
• Be able to conduct themselves with complete impartiality in the Chair.

If a senator wishes to propose themselves, they may do so with the following:

I, [username], do seek to take the Chair of this Senate as President.

Any proposal must have two supporters, who should comment below the proposal thusly:

I support the proposal that [username of proposed] do take the Chair of this Senate as President.

If a senator wishes to nominate another senator, they may do so with the following:

I propose that [username of proposed], do take the Chair of this Senate as President.
