The anti-China hysteria has once again shown itself to be nothing more than mere Sinophobia, says Gippsland-based Senator model-putrid, following a recent speech made by Commonwealth Party leader 12MaxWild in Parliament.
While model-putrid supports efforts to keep critical infrastructure in Australia out of the hands of authoritarian foreign governments, 12MaxWild's support for this bill is nothing more than very thinly veiled racism. In his speech to Parliament, 12MaxWild made it clear that we should "continue to build great things with our allies in America and Europe", directing his outrage to China instead, calling for the bill to be passed in order to block "the red and yellow peril from taking over this country", a clear reference to the racist "yellow peril" myth that depicted Asians as an existential threat to the Western world.
12MaxWild then made his implicit racism explicit, saying that the bill would "only allow[...] the government to take our country back from the Asians". While criticism can be made of the policies and ideals of the Chinese government and its ruling party without being necessarily racist, 12MaxWild has instead chosen to directly attack Asian people as a collective in a disgusting racist attack.
These are not statements or ideals that should be considered worthy of respect in a civilised democracy. If the CPA had any self-respect or moral principles, they would be demanding 12MaxWild's resignation and an immediate apology.
Quotes attributable to model-putrid, Gippsland-based Senator
"The comments of 12MaxWild disgust me, and they should be condemned by all. They run completely counter to the ideals of a multicultural and diverse Australia."
"Invoking the racist yellow peril myth and calling for the government to take back Australia from the Asians shows that 12MaxWild's intent here is to stir up racial hatred and violence against Asian Australians. He must resign immediately."
"Sinophobia is not, nor will it ever be, acceptable in Australian politics, even when flimsily dressed up as condemnation of the Chinese government."
