Senator model-putrid condems US decision to spend $7 billion in Afghan central bank funds
Post Body

Senator and Attorney-General model-putrid is deeply concerned about the recent announcement from the US Government planning to divide $7 billion in frozen funds of the Da Afghanistan Bank, the Afghan central bank, equally between humanitarian aid for Afghans and a planned settlement in a case involving 9/11 victims seeking compensation.

While it is obviously clear that the funds of Da Afghanistan Bank should not be given to the Taliban or in any way spent in a manner that could risk them being used by terrorists, the Biden administration's decision to rob Afghans of the right to determine how their money should be spent is wrong. The case to which compensation may be granted is one against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, and using the money of Da Afghanistan Bank to compensate 9/11 victims either implies that the people of Afghanistan are responsible for the attacks and should pay compensation, or that the money may be considered as belonging to the Taliban, and be used to pay compensation for their atrocities.

Senator model-putrid believes that both conclusions are wrong and harmful. The money of Da Afghanistan Bank should remain frozen until such a time when a non-terrorist led government in Afghanistan, elected by the Afghan people, is able to access it, as only the Afghan people should be able to decide what to do with this money. Not terrorists, not tinpot dictators, and not Joe Biden.

While the commitment to humanitarian spending in Afghanistan is, on the face of it, encouraging, the money of Afghans should still regardless not be used by a foreign power, even if the motives are noble. If the US Government wishes to support the Afghans amidst the unfolding humanitarian crisis in the nation, Congress should reach into their own checkbook before forking out billions of Afghan dollars.

Quotes attributable to Senator model-putrid

"The Biden administration is stealing billions of dollars from the Afghan people. It is not their money to spend and the United States government should be ashamed of themselves."

"The assets of Da Afghanistan Bank must be frozen until it is possible for a government of the Afghan people to access it."

"It is an insult to victims of the September 11 attacks to give them money that is stolen from the suffering Afghan nation."
