The Prime Minister has today announced that far-right neo-Nazi extremist group The Base is to be proscribed as a terrorist organisation. Formed in 2018, The Base is a hateful organisation that seeks to violently incite racial conflict in their sick and twisted pursuit of a white ethnostate. An ABC News investigation in March of this year uncovered The Base's disgusting attempts to recruit Australians for their campaign of race war.

Canada and the United Kingdom have already declared The Base to be a terrorist organisation, and earlier this month, two American members of the hate group were sentenced to nine years in prison with intent to commit an act of terror at a pro-gun rally in Richmond, Virginia. While the Office of the Prime Minister has chosen not to give any oxygen to some of the hateful claims made by members of The Base, it is clear that the group poses a deep and disturbing threat to the national security of Australia.

After gaining the approval of the Attorney-General and briefing the Leader of the Opposition, the Prime Minister has requested on behalf of the Attorney-General that the President formally proscribe The Base. The Attorney-General and the Prime Minister are in agreement that The Base advocates terrorism and is directly engaged in the preparing, planning, assisting in and fostering of terrorist acts in Australia.

As a result, significant embargoes and restrictions will be placed on the activities of The Base in Australia. Holding membership of the organisation and seeking to recruit for the organisation will be criminalised, as well as associating, training, and providing support to, and getting funds to and from The Base.
