Today marks a sad day in Australian politics.
The budget has failed in the senate, despite the House passing the budget at a historical rate. But the failure of the budget is but a by product of a wider issue.
The CLP has fought tooth and nail since its inception to erode the incessant partisanship that has plagued politics, especially in the countryside. What has transpired today is a return to those dark days where the wellbeing of ALL Australians is neglected for cheap political points.
ALP Lingiari candidate Dyljam had the opportunity to support a truly historical budget that would put 5 billion into northern infrastructure funding, 250 million into expanding access to drinking water, 1.8 billion into upgrading rural schools, 2 billion into upgrading rural hospitals, 2.7 billion into Port Darwin upgrades and Northern HIGHWAYS, 2.5 billion into new apprenticeship jobs, 750 million into building a steel plant in the Northern Territory which would provide hundreds of jobs, 100 million into upgrading regional mental healthcare, 500 millon into acquiring new pharmaceuticals for rural hospitals, and a whopping 300 million combined into the Aboriginal and Torres Strait wardens, working towards helping our indigenous communities! Finally 15 million into busway upgrades in Lingiari and 500 million into the mining workers redundancy fund was scratched as a result of Dyljams attempt at playing political games.
He has no shame, the ALP will market themselves as the party of the people - but read those numbers, and tell me with a straight face that they truly care about everyday people. You cannot tell me with a straight face that Dyljam truly cares about those in the regions, when he so flagrantly disregarded their wellbeing to try pivot for political points. Contrast this with the proactive, and energetic leadership the CLP has provided on rural issues and the difference is day and night.
We offer solutions, Dyljam only seeks political points. We seek to safeguard our future, provide quality education and infrastructure. Dyljam seeks backroom dealings and an "easy" way to office. Dyljam sold the future of Lingiari, of Australians everywhere downriver because he is desperate to enter office and do absolutely nothing again.
The CLP is the party of the unions, the party of the people. The party for all Australians, no matter where they live. Thats why we have offered solutions for all Australians regardless of where they live, we have had to try fix what the SDP, now the ALP had neglected. But now the ALP will waltz back in, after the hard work this government has done and try claim that it supports the working class? That it supports the people? Would a party that supports the people vote against funding for rural schools? Would they take away funding from our most vulnerable?
Absolutely not.
The events of the last week have revealed two things. Dyljam is a spineless carpet bagger
And the ALP are rich urban elites cosplaying as a labour party.
All power to the people.
BestinBounds, MP for Lingiari.
