Press Release from The Hon dyljam MP on the Election

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

--

I firstly wish to congratulate all Members of the House and all newly-elected Senators on being selected by the Australian people to be their representatives in Parliament. Such a position is a high honour, and I hope to see all representatives work in good faith as we work to deliver fair, equitable outcomes for our nation.

I would like to sincerely thank the voters of Denison for putting their faith in me as their representative in Canberra. I am deeply honoured by their decision. I would also like to thank my opponent from the Social Democratic Party, u/BHjr132, for their hard-fought campaign. I would like to work together during this parliamentary term, and my door is always open to you, as it is to all Tasmanians.

My congratulations also extends to the newly-elected National-Liberal Government and the new Prime Minister. It is clear that they fought a strong campaign, and now with the support of the Member for Brisbane, they have a right to govern our country. I will remain strictly independent, and in doing so I will not be providing confidence or supply to any party. However, it is my desire to work collaboratively with the Government to achieve better outcomes for my constituents across the Bass.

I would also like to thank the outgoing Prime Minister and his government for their tireless work over the past parliamentary term in delivering for Australians. They have certainly left a lasting legacy on our nation, one which I am sure will be everlasting.

Now we must not only look to the future, but to the present. Australia faces one of its most difficult challenges in generations. The global outbreak of COVID-19 has changed the way we live and work, and its impacts will likely last well into the future. We as parliamentarians must come together to ensure our nation makes it through this crisis. We must lay our political colours to the side, look past any previous grievances, and work with one-another to ensure that we get to the other side.

This, our duty as elected representatives, begins immediately.
