I'm showstealer1829 and it's time once again to put politics...into the spotlight.

Just what is going on with the Liberal Party? I'm genuinely confused as to what their end game is, this was a party that held the Prime Minister's office just a few short weeks ago, now it seems to be a disjointed mess that doesn't seem to have a coherent message.

On the one hand you have the leader of the party, Ash, who seems to only be the leader because noone else actually wants to put in the effort of actually leading the party, desperately trying to hold on to the ideals and the policies that actually got them elected, while at the same time holding up their end of the bargain in the current coalition government. A job that he doesn't actually get as much credit for as he should. Yet he may soon lose his grip on the leadership of the Liberal Party, whether by his own resignation or being forced out by the party faithful, because he has committed the most heinous sin that a Liberal Party leader could possibly commit, he isn't right wing enough.

Slowly but surely the Liberal Party appears to be moving to the outer fringes of the right. We saw that in Chisholm with the nomination and subsequent election of AussieConservative, a man who has.......well in the interest of not getting sued, some rather.....unique views in the realm of Australian Politics, especially in the matters of gay, lesbian and trans rights. Now whilst I certainly do not agree with a great number of his views, I definitely don't agree with the political attacks and smears brought against him by some members of the left either. A good politician should always play the field and not the man, attack the policies not the character of the man.

What we've seen from some on the left since the results of the Chisholm by-election were announced have been nothing short of disgusting. The bile and venom spewed by some members of parliament no less have been sickening. Now as I said, I don't agree with a number of Griffo's as he likes to be called views. Some of them are confronting, some of them are on the extreme side but they are valid opinions. There are plenty of people in Australia who share the views of the new member for Chisholm and by indulging in this sickening, vile campaign of character assassination the people of the left, the Socialist party especially ignore what was the biggest problem for them in the Chisholm By-election.

You see the Liberal Party did not win Chisholm because the electorate suddenly turned into bigots as the Socialist Leader may claim, the Liberal Party did not win Chisholm because the voters agreed one hundred percent with the views of the Liberal Party candidate. The Liberal Party won Chisholm....because of the catastrophic failure of the left side of politics to galvanise and the failure of the Socialist Party to choose a candidate that connected with the electorate.

What did we see in the week or so leading up to the by-election, a bunch of in-fighting on the left, as they all pointed the finger at each other as the ones who should take the blame for the collapse of all the factions of the Labour party. We barely saw the Socialists out in Chisholm campaigning. Even when the writing was on the wall and the Socialist Party leader totally lost the plot, he couldn't be bothered holding his rally slash final desperate smear campaign in Chisholm, he made a speech in Adelaide.

It's what I've been saying for weeks now, treat the voters with contempt and they will disown you. The Liberals didn't win Chisholm because the people of Chisholm are bigots, the Liberals won Chisholm because you failed to do your job. The sooner you realise that, the sooner the left side of politics can begin to heal and fight back against the government. Fail to do so, and you've already seen the results.
