At the time of publication, one member of the government has stood up to speak on the motion to remove Justice Griffonomics -- RookWilt, member for Melbourne and Minister for Youth.
In the same reflexive opposition that has thus far characterised the SDP government -- which infamously broke promises made to youth protesters simply because it was the opposition which submitted a bill to implement them -- RookWilt spoke against the motion. Specifically, they argued that:
"The high court justice member in question, Griffonomics, is a qualified member, who was appointed to court in the proper manner, and has not any legal impropiety [sic] issues."
Not long after, model-forza, leader of Australians for Democracy, presented the House with evidence that Griffonomics was not, in fact, appointed to the court in the proper manner. Rather, Griffonomics had used his influence within the LNP to threaten the ANCAP Government, swearing to revoke supply should he not be appointed.
These new revelations have completely altered the political calculus, with many MPs and Senators who had backed the embattled Justice forced to reconsider their position.
A source within the SDP, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed the government's current panic:
"We've been caught with our pants down again. We completely misjudged Griffo's character and I have no idea why. This is one of the most consistently conservative guys out there! For God's sake, he got Indigenous Senators declared unconstitutional. And we lined up behind him, probably just because Youmaton sees him as a friend."
As the government scrambles for a response, Senator TheSensibleCentre, who seconded the motion, has taken a victory lap.
"It was pretty plain for anybody to see that Griffo is a bad guy. He's a guy with a record of scummy behaviour and backroom knifing. To imagine none of that went into his appointment betrays an astoundingly poor judge of character which, unfortunately, it would appear the government suffers from."
Slow-Passenger, who authored the motion, was similarly stern.
"I am very shocked to hear about these details into what led Griffo to become a Justice in the High Court. But at the same time not surprised, it was a hasty rush exit from Griffonomics and now we know the motives of this man. This motion must pass parliament to ensure that our High Court is held to its highest integrity standard possible because otherwise trust within the court will be low and accountability will be out the window if Griffo continues to remain as Justice."
It remains to be seen what ramifications this will have for the government, though after the political wounds suffered by their Attorney-General's slide into fascism, it's expected there will be tough conversations within the SDP tonight.
