Youma has spoken at the protest on the lawns of Parliament House today, surprising onlookers as the Prime Minister’s name was welcomed by the organisers
Youma: “Yuma everyone, thank you dearly to the organisers of today’s event for welcoming me to the protest and gathering here today, and for all of you for engaging in our political and democratic system. I know there are a diverse range of views, opinions and feelings here at this event. Towards the parliament, towards the government, towards me, and I may say before you today, as the Prime Minister who is willing to stand before you all, I hear you. I understand your frustrations, I understand your anger and why you are here today, where you stand before the doors of parliament demanding that politicians hear you, see you and listen to you. My Government, the Social Democratic Party, the Deputy Prime Minister and his Country Labor Party, is ready to listen, and we are ready to act.”
“I stand before you here today with a promise, that I will not lie to you, and I will not pretend that things are okay the way they are. The climate is getting worse, housing is unaffordable, and the cost of living is impacting every single one of you. We as a parliament, a government, and as a nation must do better for our future generations, and it is up to myself and my government to be that change that we all wish to see. As part of this, in recognition of a long fight which holds a conclusion that is well overdue, I stand before you today with progress.*
Youma pulls out a copy of the Electoral Amendment (Votes at 16) Act 2024
“In my hand, is the legislation that my government will bring forward to the parliament before the next election to ensure that those of you across this nation that is 16 or 17 may join in the festival of democracy, so that you may have a say in who governs you, so you may finally be heard. This is my vow, using our majority in the House and the Senate, we will get this passed, we will get this done, you will never be ignored again.”
“Democracy must work for all, and it is the privilege of my life to be able to serve not only as your Prime Minister, but as a Prime Minister for you. Gone are the days of false promises and inaction. Gone are the days of chaos and instability that has affected every single one of us. Gone are the days where politicians said that your voice would not be heard, as your voice is now liberated. You will be heard, you will be listened to, and you will have the power at the ballot box to make this so. Thank you all!”
