Shock and humiliating in Canberra today as BellmanTGM loses yet another vote. On the back of defeats over the budgets and tax cuts, the Prime Minister has now been forced to watch members of his own party vote to lay the Bill aside.

The spectacular image of Bellman, staring down ANCAP MPs jq8678 and Model-Forza on the other side of the House, has captivated audiences who already speculate that the Bellman Government may be on its last legs.

The Bill was laid aside in a dramatic 7-2 vote, a shock turnaround for a Bill that had no difficulty passing the House in the past.

The Bill was returned to the House after the Senate amended the commencement date -- inserting a later date to allow the rebuilding of animal welfare infrastructure that had been decommissioned after the ban.

Direct Action understands that this was a deliberate tactic by the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds -- led by maverick MP TheSensibleCentre -- to force the Bill back to the House, where the CPG had more favourable numbers.

If so, that strategy paid off spectacularly. Not only has the Bill failed, any path it had to re-entry appears closed, with the current House numbers weighted so heavily against repeal.

In a triumphant statement attributed to TheSensibleCentre, the CPG called it a "day to celebrate," issuing a congratulations to the Coalition's millions of supporters that led a public pressure campaign to flip MPs against the Bill.

Following TheSensibleCentre's success at building a bipartisan coalition -- which notably included the Independent MP for Brisbane -- many have speculated about her future within the Labour Party. Some suggest a SensibleCentre Labour would be more able to secure the support of the Parliament's large crossbench.

When asked if she had any leadership ambitions, TheSensibleCentre laughed it off.

"Jordology is my leader, and I'm ambitious for him! He's taken us to the top of the polls, and he's going to take us to the government benches -- you mark my words."
