The shock resignation of LNP Leader Griffonomics has the Labour Party in high spirits, with party insiders hopeful of a third by-election win.
While running the board in Canberra, Melbourne, and now Cunningham, is no easy feat, many within the Labour Party are quietly confident.
Former Prime Minister TheSensibleCentre, said she expected "a seismic result."
"The ANCAP Party have come into government, and immediately shown the electorate that they are much, much further to the right than they were willing to campaign on. This is a government that believes it should not exist -- in their utopia, there is no service provision at all. No Centrelink, no healthcare, no schools.
"Now, Australians have the opportunity to reject that agenda and elect a government that cares about making life better for Australians."
Winning all three by-elections would give the ALP five seats, a making them the largest bloc in Parliament. It would mean that, together with their CLP allies, the party would only need one more seat for a majority. TheSensibleCentre, asked about the possibility of finding this seat, remained upbeat.
"Look, you've got four independents. Both showstealer and SlowPassenger could be convinced to support a Labour Government -- these are people with principles that actually align very closely with us.
"But moreover, if the Government can't win any of these by-elections, it's over. It'd show that ANCAP is totally spent as a political force, and then you'd see the rats flee the sinking ship. I wouldn't be surprised if another one came over to our side, or if Bellman refused to go down with the ship and resigned himself. That'd give us the opening we need to form a government that works for all Australians, not just the top end of town."
Griffonomics has resigned from Cunningham to seek appointment to the High Court of Australia, in a move that has been controversial amongst some on the left.
