The beers have been flowing at the Mildura Settlers Function Room, where showstealer and his team have been watching the results come in. The crowd is raucous and happy as showstealer comes to the mic for his speech
Okay...settle. Settle......Friends. If anyone ever tells you anything is impossible in politics, I want you to point out this night to them.
The crowd cheer loudly and chant showstealer's name. He waits a moment, smiling before he continues
Before I begin, can I take a moment to thank once again the people of Nicholls for putting their faith in me for the third time and to congratulate all the candidates who ran for election in the seat of Ncholls. Especially to the ANCAAP's candidate Edible_Pie, who pushed their parties message all the way to the end and on another day it might be them claiming victory tonight. I hope he finds a place in parliament soon as a mind like that is too good to have on the sidelines.
Friends. We entered this campaign facing a herculean task, but we also had a strong message. A message to send to the major parties that the people of Nicholls were sick and tired of being ignored, that to only pay attention to the people when the election rolls around is no way to represent the people of this fine electorate. That local problems, local issues, needed a local voice as communities along the Murray River rebuild from the worst floods in half a century. as farming communities in the Mallee continue to suffer through countless disasters, not only of nature but of government regulation as they continue to be the foodbowl of our great country. as families and people all across Nicholls continue to suffer through the greatest cost of living crisis in a generation.
Tonight not only in Nicholls but in Cowper as well, the people of Australia sent a message to the major parties of this country. That they are sick and tired of being used by parties that only care for them when an election rolls around. That they want better representation in Parliament to sort out the problems every Australian has. That they are sick and tired of being ignored. My friends. We will not be ignored any longer.
Now whatever the results of the vote of no confidence going on in parliament as we celebrate tonight. The major parties now have a choice. They can choose to keep their heads in the sand and ignore the results of this evening as a one off and keep the problems cycling through their own parties, or they can start listening to us, work with us and build a better future not only for the people of Nicholls but the people of Australia.
To those who voted for us tonight. I humbly thank you for once again giving me the privilege of being your representative in parliament.
To those that did not see fit to vote for us tonight. I hope that I can earn your trust as your representative in parliament so that you will see fit to give us your trust at the next election.
To those voters outside the electorate of Nicholls, especially those in seats held by the major parties, that would choose to hear our message tonight. We welcome you with open arms and we will work with you to ensure you too will have your message be heard in parliament.
To those parties that would seek to work with us, we can be your most valuable friends if you choose to hear the message sent tonight and to work with us to improve regulation and cutting red tape in the farming sector, giving much needed disaster relief to communities rebuilding after the floods and bringing strength back to the bush.
Finally to those that would choose to keep their heads in the sand and not listen to us, indeed actively seek to silence us Boos and chants against the LNP start Now I didn't name names. So just settle. But to those who would actively choose to ignore and silence us, you will find we can also be your worst enemies. You will ignore us at your peril, because we will be loud enough for the entire country to hear,
In closing. Once again. I thank the people of Nicholls for putting their faith in me. Tonight a message was sent. Tonight I stand before you, happy yet humbled, and I say those two words that it's clear some people never wanted to hear.
"I'm. Back."
