All good things must come to an end and my time on the Moderation Team is no different.
The simple reality is I don’t have the time to put into this any more. I still enjoy marking posts, dealing with election drama, and managing the calculator but I’ve had to accept that AustraliaSim will suffer if I remain as its Electoral Moderator. The election side of the simulation needs a fresh and agile leader that can make changes to keep the sim engaging. I simply don’t have the capacity to do this but I have been happy to see discussions led by people interested in rejuvenating the sim. I have purposefully stayed out of these discussions as I don’t think the opinion of a 2018-era Moderation Team member is particularly useful to keeping canon engaging to the modern players of the simulation.
I will not be returning to canon at this stage, and I have told the mod team that I would like to stay on as an EC advisor to help train up my successor(s) and to maintain the calculator in the future.
I have known for a few months that this recent election would be my last as EM, so it was somewhat enjoyable to reflect and watch the term unfold all the way up until election night knowing that each poll was one set of marking closer to my last. It was good fun to run an election stream for the last time and I thank those that participated in it.
Here are some wild stats for y’all.
It’s been nearly 4 years since we switched to fully simmed elections, here’s all the EMs we’ve had in that time (not including NKG who ran the first fully simmed election before EM was a thing):
- 1st: Myself (May 2019 - September 2019)
- 2nd: Toby (September 2019 - January 2020)
- 3rd: PC (January 2020 - March 2020)
- 4th: Toby (March 2020 - May 2020)
- 5th: Porridge (May 2020 - September 2020)
- 6th: Youma (September 2020 - June 2021)
- 7th: AMN (June 2021 - September 2021)
- 8th: Myself (September 2021 - October 2022)
Having been the first Electoral Moderator and now, with the upcoming merger with Parliament Moderator, the last, I have seen the sim go through many eras and changes. The first term I marked was Term 9 and now I finish having marked Term 24 and the 25th Election. Where did all that time go?
It is hard to track this due to the lack of good records in the sim but I think I am the second longest serving Moderation Team member overall, behind only tbyrn himself. Wild.
Anyway, thanks for everything AustraliaSim. My time has come. You must continue your journey without me.
