At Sydney TownHall the crowd gathers to hear from showstealer1829 who steps up to the microphone
Well today is the day. I officially affirm my candacy for the Australian Parliament, and what better place to stand for than the seat representing the beautiful town of Sydney.
As I said when I first announced I was returning to politics, this is not just about me, a lot of people might have the wrong impression that I'm doing this for ego, that I'm standing because my anger and bombast at certain aspects of the past two governments is the only reason I've chosen to return to politics.
The reality couldn't be farther from the truth, while it is true that certainly I have been outspoken against the governments of the past two terms. What we have seen from the last two terms is the voters of Australia ignored, either by ideology, ineptitude or just plain because the people representing us just are too pig-headed to believe that anything else other than their own ideals deserve to be listened to
Let's look at the current state of the parties. The Liberal Party is a shell of itself, torn apart by internal conflict after internal conflict to where they're barely functioning going into this election, they failed the people of Australia by looking within and not taking in criticism and listening to the people of Australia
The Labor party are a strong entity, perhaps even capable of taking over and taking a stand. But do not be fooled ladies and gentlemen. This is not a Labor party like is tradition, that has been known in the past. What we see from the Labor party is the Socialist party that wrecked and divided Australia in their time in government in a cheap suit. A vote for Labor is a return to the dark days of this country. Already we've seen the talk about them, that their way is the only way, and if you're not agreeable to that way then you are ostracised, marginalised and ignored. It is clear that a Labor party will not listen to the concerns of Australia voters other than those that follow their own political ideal. That is why we cannot risk giving them power once again.
The Greens are small but stable, but they are not a strong party with their own ideals. Oh sure they may have their own policies, they may have their own manifesto when it comes to this election, but make no mistake, when push comes to shove they march to the beat of the Labor drum. A vote for the Greens is simply a vote for Labor without the guilt. They have no substance, no spine and no inclination that they will ever be anything other than Labor lite
The Nationals. Not even really worth discussing, nor are the Conservatives. They are small fragmented idelouges that are basically the mirror image of the Labor socialists and the Labor lite Greens, they will no more listen to you than the other two will.
Which brings me to Reason and the UDP. The two parties in the middle, the two parties that claim they are for all people. But let's look at them more closely, the Reason party is simply this Frankenstein's monster of put together parts and policies thrown at a wall to try and put together a coherent platform to stand on, some of it good, a lot of it bad. While my former colleague is counted as one of the members of the party, there are others that have failed the test of standing before, and they will fail again if given the chance. To trust the Reason party ironically is to ignore your own reason.
And finally my old friends, the others returning to the frey, the UDP. The Democrats in sheeps clothing. I could stand here for another 15 minutes and run through every policy that has harmed the people of Australia during their time in power, from the plastic bag policy harmed small business in Australia to the Greyhound Racing ban that has condemned 200,000 animals to their deaths in less than one year. They claim to stand for all Australians, yet we've seen time and time and time again what that means is they stand for themselves. They stand for their own moral ideologies and if your own ideology is different to theirs, you're ignored, cast aside, without a voice in the parliament you have a right to vote for,
For two terms of parliament. I sat in the halls of power, I was considered a maverick, a rebel. Ostracised and pilloried by those in power and for what reason? Because I believed we as parliamentarians should listen to all Australians, not just those we either agree with, we like or we take donations from.
That is why once again I am standing at this election not as a member of a party, not creating my own party with my own ideals, but as an independent. A true independent, an independent who will stand up to all sides of politics, look them in the eye and call them out for not listening to you, the voters of Australia,
But I need your help on this journey. I'm not here asking for donations, I know the task I face, I'm facing down parties and people that want to maintain things the way they are, the way they have been for the past two terms, they have multi million dollar donations, multi million dollar budgets to advertise. We face a hurculean task to defeat these people
What I am asking for is your trust, as you trusted me once before to shake things up in the Australian Parliament, I ask the voters of Sydney to trust me once again. Together we can make the parties listen to us, together we can make sure all people are listened to, together we can shake things up once again.
