Austin City Limits celebrates 1000th taping - May 25, 2022 - Performance by the excellent Allison Russell
Post Body

I saw it live. It looks like the stream is no longer available, but I'm linking in case that changes. If anyone happened to record the stream, let me know.

Allison was a great choice for the 1000th taping, despite her being Canadian. (No one is perfect.) Her debut solo album, Outside Child, is the best concept album I've heard in a long time.

...Russell herself stating that “the record itself isn't really about abuse. It's about the journey out of that, and breaking those cycles. It is about resilience, survival, transcendence, the redemptive power of art, community, connection, and chosen family”.

Also: Allison's 8 year old daughter makes her debut! ...and visibly chastises mom when Allison begins singing their duet a bit late. lol.

Congrats on 1,000, ACL!

Austin City Limits is proud to be the longest-running music series in television history. Tonight, on May 25, 2022, we reach yet another historic chapter in our acclaimed story: our 1,000th taping, featuring singer/songwriter Allison Russell. When, in 1974, program director/executive producer Bill Arhos, producer Paul Bosner and director Bruce Scafe conceived of a live music performance showcase that, in Bosner’s words, would capture “that magic that floats back and forth between the musician and the audience, ” no one had any idea that we’d continue to thrive with that basic philosophy almost five decades later, until we reached the millennial mark. Join us for this monumental taping with the live stream here tonight at 8PM CST and follow along on social media #ACLTV1K.

We couldn’t have made it to our 1,000th taping without the support of Austin PBS, our longstanding National Underwriters, the Friends of ACL, our fans and especially, our crew. From the beginning, back in 1974 at Studio 6A to today at ACL Live at the Moody Theater; our crew members have been the backbone of this series. They ensure every performance is a success, and the video included here pays tribute to their hard work. Please join us in giving thanks to our intrepid camera operators, audio staff, video operators, production assistants, makeup artists and everyone else that’s had a direct effect on making Austin City Limits the iconic program that it is.

Special thanks to PNC Bank for their contribution to this 1,000th taping – celebrating the staff and crew who make Austin City Limits possible. Thank you to everyone for being part of Austin City Limits history!
