As requested: (another weather anthropomorphic analogy) Since mid June weâve been under the influence of a giant heat dome here in central Texas. Think of a heat dome as an unwelcome mother-in-law who comes from Phoenix. You never really wanted her to come in the first place, she is very controlling and hot tempered, and she really makes you boil. She leaves the thermostat much higher than you prefer. For the first few weeks you put up with her, then asked her politely to leave. She didnât and vastly overstayed her welcome, and although she promised to leave a few times, she never has. Well, itâs the time of year she has to return to Phoenix to take care of some business. Sheâll be back next summer to bug you again.
Next up you have a really nice visitor. Itâs a couple of pals from up north, but they only plan on staying a little while for now. The only problem with them is they have a drinking problem. They are sober for now. When theyâre sober they are the most pleasant you could ever imagine. When theyâre sober we call that âfallâ around here. But sometime in October they may get drunk and itâll get mighty stormy around our neck of the woods. They may even tear down a tree or two in their drunken stupor. Youâll banish them back up north but theyâll keep returning every couple of weeks until your mother in law returns sometime in may or June next year. They donât dare get caught with her. Last time she beat the shit out of them and sobered them right up. Only old man winter is more powerful than the mother in law heat dome but he prefers to visit central Texas in February. He has an ice cold persona and every one fears him with their life. When he visits he dominates every aspect of your life. Fortunately he usually only visits a week or two before terrorizing another place.
