Hey y’all, kind of wanted to make this post after some shit went down last night in south Austin. I’m from a rougher part of Denver initially and I moved down here almost two years ago and haven’t had any experiences like this down here until last night. Last night on an intersection on the I-35 frontage road, a car was stopped, blocking two of the three lanes parked perpendicular to the traffic lanes, left running, lights on, windows halfway down and sitting there. My first instinct after seeing this was to stop and pull over and make sure everything was okay, it was almost 3:30 am and no one was around. After flashing my, lights honking the horn and no reaction. I parked momentarily and got out to check to see if someone was hurt or having a medical emergency behind the wheel, but low and behold the car was empty. It was under a dark underpass with no businesses or other people around, and that’s when I knew it was time to rack a round and get the hell out of there. As I pulled away I saw three people standing on the opposite side of the street behind the concrete pillars of the overpass, trying to stay in the dark. People will set up bait cars like this to try to get people to stop and check, exit their vehicles, or slow down enough to where they can leap at the opportunity, they’ll run up on drivers in groups, often armed, and will assault, rob or steal your vehicle while you’re just trying to make sure everything is okay. I’ve seen this happen multiple times back in Denver and people get killed without hesitation. Just wanted to put a heads up out there for people in the area! If you see a car in a darker area in the middle of the night and it’s Parked strangely windows are open flashers on even, or the car is stopped somewhere where it really shouldn’t be, avoid it! Always be aware of your surroundings and your location, pay attention to what’s close by, things like this will happen in areas away from businesses, buildings or homes more often than not, anywhere that there isn’t the chance of being caught on film. If you can confirm there’s no one in the vehicle, and you’re in a rougher area, get the hell out of there! Be safe and be aware y’all, it’ll save your ass.
