Redistribution of federal electorates - preliminary boundaries
Post Body

Due to the fact that the previous map of boundaries is nonexistent, and that two states are currently undergoing redistributions, changing their electorate boundaries, the AEC has decided to begin a redistribution of federal boundaries.

The number of MPs - currently 15 - under our preliminary boundaries, will not change. Under our determination of entitlement using enrolled voters, here is the current amount of MPs each state and territory is entitled to:

State/territory Enrolled voters Electorates
New South Wales 5,350,797 4 electorates
Victoria 4,278,563 3 electorates
Queensland 3,404,922 3 electorates
Western Australia 1,725,518 1 electorate
South Australia 1,233,353 1 electorate
Tasmania 394,515 1 electorate
Australian Capital Territory 305,692 1 electorate
Northern Territory 143,312 1 electorate

As a result, below are the proposed electoral boundaries for each state. Each electorate is required to remain within a percentage variation of plus or minus 10% from the average of each electorate's voters.

There is no map available of the proposed electorates, due to the fact that the AEC could not find mapping data suitable for Google My Maps. Anyone is entitled to provide their opinion to the AEC on how many divisions they think there should be, if the proposed boundaries should be altered, if there should be any name changes, etc. If you have any questions, you can contact me or ask below and I will do my best to answer. The final boundaries, taking submissions into account, will be published after submissions close.
