[SA - Water Resources and Local Government Alteration - Post 2] NGSpy makes a speech at Port Adelaide
Post Body

NGSpy is in Port Adelaide with news reporters, with rural news representation present.

Thank you all for coming today! It is great to be here in Adelaide to talk more specifically about the Local Government and Water Resources Alterations that you will be voting on this Saturday. If you want a summary of all the alterations, I made a great speech over in Fremantle Port which I encourage you all to have a listen to, and to listen to those around Australia speaking on the alterations. It is most important that you all have an informed decision on this matter, as the future of the nation shall be affected by this vote.

First I would like to speak on the Water Resources Alteration. Water as we all know is a very essential resource to have. We all drink it, and need it for sanitation, and nothing is going to change that. We need to ensure that this resource is shared responsibly among Australians for future generations. I have in particular invited rural news broadcasters here today to engage with farmers and rural South Australians with this particular alteration, as it is important to them that they see water for their crops, and for their livelihood. In New South Wales, there is a great scourge of flood-plain harvesting that is affecting South Australian farmer's access to water as well. Flood-plain harvesting is where farmers divert water from the river illegally, and store it in massive units for their own crops. This has the effect, however, of disproportionately affecting farmers down south of the Murray-Darling Basin in particular, which includes South Australian farmers.

With this Water Alteration, the federal government can set up united water policy much easier. South Australia will not have to bow down to the interests of NSW to get their bloody water, and the federal government will ensure that South Australian farmers, and their people, get the water they need! The federal government shall be required under the alteration to make sustainable water policy, which ensures that any policy crafted will be considerate of environmental impacts.

The local government alteration is a little bit different. It properly recognises local government within the Constitution, and ensures that the federal government can freely transfer powers to local government from the federal and state government. Having a consistent and transparent local government system is the right goal. We must ensure that they are accountable and represent the interests of their local area, and not just greedy companies that take advantage of it. With New South Wales we can see the damage that property developers, who have conflicts of interest, can have on local councils. This alteration shall ensure that there is another level of government that ensures that local government is the best it possibly can be, and that State governments do not have the monopoly. This alteration would allow for the federal government to demand indigenous representation or allow it to have certain powers the State has traditionally restricted.

In sum, it is most important to all South Australians, and all Australians to vote in favour of the 4 alterations being put up to a vote on Saturday. They will provide a bright future with more possibilities for the federal government, and shall ensure that water and local government policy is in your interest. So, I implore all of you to #SayYesToChange.
