Should politicians be able to lie? That is my question to you all. Should politicians be able to spread false information at the cost of our democracy? I do not believe so, yet that is what my opponent DirtySaiyan believes in.
DirtySaiyan, the Commonwealth candidate for Brisbane, believes that politicians should be able to spread false information through political advertisements to the benefit of themselves and their party at the expense of our great democracy.
Businesses cannot spread false information legally, yet politicians can. Shouldn’t we hold politicians to a higher standard? I think so, yet my opponent DirtySaiyan does not.
They also stated that I and the Labor party would take away the freedom of speech for the average Queenslander, which is simply not true. But If you are a politician, you should be held to a higher standard than the average Australian, you should not be able to spread false information to the people. Yet that is what my opponent believes. DirtySaiyan believes that they should have the right to give you false information for the benefit of themselves and their party. It’s absurd.
I and the Labor party want to Make Australia work for you. One of the ways we will Make Australia work for you is by ensuring that your local politician does not lie to your face. If elected, the Labor Party and I will work through the Parliament to table legislation to ensure that politicians will not be able to spread false information by the next federal election. I wish you all a good night.
Thank you.
