Over the next four days, you will hear the arguments made for who should run this country and who should represent Brisbane. These arguments will be by the party leaders and the local candidates. Today, I am here to make my argument, make my case and make Australia work for you. My name is thenorthernmarshall, the Labor candidate for Brisbane.
One of the arguments made by the Labor party is the argument that corporate interests should hold no place in Australian democracy. That is an argument I completely support and endorse. A Labor government would outright ban political donations from corporations and lobby groups. Politicians, currently, are essentially being bribed by these corporations to further their interests at the expense of you. How can you expect Australia to work for you if our politicians aren't working for you? A Labor government will ban corporate political donations to make Australia work for you.
Another argument made by the Labor party and I is that we should not allow politicians to knowingly spread false information through political advertisements to the public. We don't allow businesses to spread false information to the public why should politicians be allowed! We should hold our politicians to a higher standard than private individuals and private corporations. A Labor government will introduce legislation into the parliament that would make it an offence to knowingly spread false information through advertisements.
In the next few days, you will be seeing and hearing more from the Labor party and me. I want you to know that if elected, I will represent and advocate for the people of Brisbane to the fullest of my ability. I want to thank you all for this opportunity and I wish you all a good night.
