Post Body

Thank you all for coming out here today. I'm sure most of you know me, but if you don't, I'm TheSensibleCentre. I was PM a couple of times and those were some of the best governments Australia has ever had -- that's why I'm out here campaigning for a Jordology Government to heal the divisions of his country and give Aussie battlers a hand up!

Right now, people are doing it tough -- not just here, but around Australia. Global conditions are driving record inflation, petrol is getting more and more expensive, and mortgage holders are dealing with huge rate rises.

But I tell you, we can all be thankful to weather this storm in Australia. It's the best place in the world for it, and you know why? It's thanks to previous left-wing governments.

Thanks to previous left-wing governments, we have fair and equitable access to bulk billing. That means, rather than choose between a doctor's fee and a mortgage repayment, you can have your health AND your home.

It means, thanks to our investment in public housing, that Australians are able to have a roof over their head and not end up out on the streets. It's also down great things for property prices, letting young Australians get their foot on the property ladder.

And of course, the legalisation of drugs means we no longer send Australians to prison, but get them the help they need for drug addiction. And if somebody has a habit that's not affecting anyone else, well then, we just leave them alone!

Because the mission of the Labour Party is this: we aim to create an Australia where everyone can feel good all the time. We want to make this a country where it is so easy to feel good, to have fun, and to relax. We don't want to send people off to work for twelve hours, as they do in the ANCAP Party. We would rather people have all the time they need to spend with their family, friends, and other loved ones.

We want to see a government that is strong, but not overbearing. We have no interest in going in and micromanaging every aspect of your life; all we care about is making sure the government stands ready.

Because we've all been there, haven't we? We've gotten knocked on our back a few times throughout life... I know I certainly have! Perhaps nobody in the government has -- perhaps they live life on easy street, and that's what's made them so out of touch with the ordinary Australian experience. Maybe.

But I've been knocked down, and I think that in those cases, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the government extending its hand and helping you back on your feet. Because you have to understand, we're not sitting here and saying 'nobody has to work! Enjoy the handouts!'

No, what we're saying is that obviously people have to work. But the jobs they work should be jobs of dignity. They should be jobs people can feel good about, jobs that make you feel like you're making a real contribution to the health of our society. They should be jobs with good hours, that leave you plenty of time to go home and do whatever the hell you want.

They should not be, as the Government wishes, jobs that go from sunrise to sunset. They should not be jobs where your boss gets to dictate every aspect of your life.

Because that's what the Government doesn't understand. The ANCAP Party claims to be pro-liberty and anti-authoritarian. But this is a lie, a smokescreen. In truth, ANCAP supports all sorts of authority, all sorts of restrictions on liberty. Just as long as it's not from the government.

When your boss says, "to work here, you have to have your hair a certain way, you can't have piercings, you can't have tattoos," you know how the ANCAP Party would respond to that? They'd say, "it's his business, he gets to set whatever restrictions he wants."

You know how Labour responds to that? We say, "what the hell business do you have in how your employees present themselves? You think owning a small business gives you the right to control people?"

Absolutely not! We believe in liberty, in true liberty. We believe in a kind of liberty that can only be enjoyed by someone with a full belly, a roof over their head, and a household budget they don't have to stress over. Only once people are secure can they ever truly be free.

Go out onto the streets. Go to a homeless person sleeping rough, and tell them, "did you hear, the ANCAP Government just reduced the size of the government!"

Do you expect him to start jumping for joy? Do you expect him to say, "thank god! The one thing that's been keeping me back!"

No! Conversely, tell him that Labour is in power. Tell him that the public housing waitlist has been trimmed down, and he might actually get a roof over his head. Then he'll have reason to celebrate.

Because those are the two lies of the ANCAP Government. They claim that liberty can be enjoyed by the hungry and destitute -- convenient for them, considering their policies actively create more hungry and destitute. They also claim, even more obnoxiously, that an infringement on liberty is only worth fighting if it's the government. Otherwise, private corporations should have the right to do whatever they want. They should have the power to intervene in your life at every level!

We disagree. We disagree completely. Rather, we believe that true liberty comes when people are secure, and when corporations don't have the power to infringe on our personal liberties. We believe that the people of Cunningham deserve an MP that fights for them, doesn't just sit back and approve any legislation that comes his way.

That's why I'm encouraging you, all of you, to vote for Trurl20 and the Labour Party. With a Jordology Government, we will turn the tide and start INVESTING in our communities, rather than locking all that money away as the government has with the budget.
