The following is the script of a campaign advertisement released by the Socialist Party of Australia ahead of the federal election:
Scene opens with Socialist leader Model-Trask walking into a living room. He looks at the camera and smiles.
Trask: Hello there, I'm here today to talk about socialism, and why we need a socialist society.
Cut to a shot of a newspaper with the headline "What is socialism?"
Trask: Socialism is an economic and political system where the means of production are owned and controlled by the people, either directly or through their elected representatives.
Cut to a shot of a large factory, with workers walking in and out.
Trask: The idea is to ensure that everyone has access to the basic necessities of life, like housing, healthcare, and education. And that the wealth created by the economy is distributed fairly, instead of just going to a few at the top.
Cut to Trask sitting in a chair, looking serious.
Trask: Now, I know what some of you may be thinking: "Isn't that just a recipe for disaster?" But let me tell you, we have shown that it can work in Australia.
Cut to a shot of patients at a public hospital.
Trask: The socialist movement has already made huge strides in Australia. Our people enjoy free healthcare and education, have strong labour protections, and are protected by a strong safety net in case of unemployment or illness. And yet, we still have a thriving economy and a high standard of living.
Cut to Trask standing up and gesturing with his hands.
Trask: So, why is socialism good? Because it helps to create a more equal society, where everyone has access to the same opportunities. And that's important because when everyone has a chance to succeed, society as a whole benefits.
Cut to a shot of homeless people on the street.
Trask: Yet we still have a lot of work to do here in Australia. There are those in parliament who want to dismantle our socialist reforms, take money out of our schools, decrease the power of our unions, and cut access to welfare. We need to elect socialists who can stop them.
Cut to a shot of a neighbourhood with happy children playing outside.
Trask: We can have a world where no one is left behind, where everyone has a fair shot at success. And that's what socialism is all about.
Cut to Trask sitting in the chair, smiling.
Trask: If socialism sounds good to you, then have your say this election by putting the Socialist Party first.
Cut to a shot of Model-Trask walking out of the living room. The screen goes to black.
Trask: Authorised by Model-Trask, 4-10 Goulburn Street, Sydney
