What’s up with the way real estate agents pronounce the word “vendor” as “venn-door”?
Post Body

A hard emphasis on the “door” which isn’t pronounced by anyone outside of the industry.

At first I thought it was just one guy not understanding the word but even older more experienced agents put a hard emphasis on the “door”.

I work in tech and I interface with everyone from engineers to CEO’s across every region on earth. Real estate agents are the only people I’ve ever heard say “ven-door”. But maybe there’s some distinction between say, a software vendor and a property vendor?

Comments

“Vendah” would be a more typical Australian pronunciation. I suspect it’s just to stay in line with UK and USA pronunciation within their industry. Dunno why everyone thinks it’s so normal for Australians to fully pronounce the “or” - I can’t even think of another word we don’t revert to “ah” for.
