No future here?
Post Body

Hi, my family consider ourselves doing ok financially (37m, 35f, 3yo child) we were lucky to buy during covid and have super. I’m noticing a lot of generational wealth transfer occurring, especially in Sydney. Perhaps I’m feeling jealous that others seem to have it easier than many and theres no arguing that the wealth divide is increasing. I’m not naive I know it’s part of the world.. however, I’m worried about my child’s future in Australia. I don’t see him ever being able to go out and do it on his own like my partner and I did (I.e study, hve a normal job, save, or ever earn enough for a loan or have any type of basic housing stability). I feel quite sad about this and I’m feeling disillusioned by it all.

We’re considering moving abroad where perhaps we can earn average salaries and buy an average house and our son has freedoms to one day do the same. anyone else, single, or with a family feel this way?

** just to add I don’t feel like we compare ourselves to others, nor do I begrudge anyone who receives help, merely making observations on aus society at the moment. We don’t live or own in Sydney - I use Sydney as an example of where much of Australian wealth is pooled. We bought in Toowoomba and worked rural remote in the NT for the most part of 15 years upskilling and saving. We’ve received no home deposits from our parents and both of us come from humble beginnings (migrant parents and parents with disabilities)

And even in 15 years, it’s not like you just kick them out the door to land on their ass. You will be able to support them and guide them in the right direction. Build them up to be able to go out and chase their dreams, they’ll have a headstart on a lot of people just by having supportive parents.
