Hi everyone,
Years ago my mom 'lent'/invested money to a friend in New Zealand who then used this money to buy land. The friend formed a company and my mom was allocated shares. The friend was also the director of this company. Years later my mom and this friend had a falling out and they haven't spoken to each other since then. My mom had given up on ever getting this money back.
A few weeks ago my mom received a letter from New Zealand Companies Office advising that this friend was a director in other some company which has since gone bankrupt and that we had to appoint a new director for the company my mom has shares in.
Anyone know if there are lawyers in Sydney that can represent us for matters in New Zealand? Or would it be better to find a lawyer based in Auckland? And if so, how does one choose a lawyer in NZ?
Thanks.
