Location: Queensland. About 12-14 months ago, I bought a tablet for my business (which I eventually had to close due to covid) through Harvey Norman, and they deal solely with Optus as the service provider. I asked the salesman if I could cancel the contract if I moved to a place with no Optus coverage. He said absolutely. Remember this. The time comes for us to move to the area with no Optus coverage. I rang Optus and they said I signed the contract with a no-cancellation policy, even if I have no coverage. I go to Harvey Norman ready to fight (in a civil manner), but get told it’s not their problem and the guy who said that I could cancel the contract didn’t say that. Optus wants $400 to exit the contract (it’d be free if I went straight to Optus, who didn’t have the tablet I was after). I don’t have $400 just laying around. Did I majorly screw up, or do I have options?
