Self Defence?

Post Body

From my knowledge, my understanding of Australian self defence law is all about ā€œreasonable and proportional forceā€ which to me means itā€™s greatly up to interpretation in court for example. More specifically though, what happens if someone is breaking into your house with a machete in hand, and you hit their head with a baseball bat causing death. They didnā€™t see you, yet to verbally threaten you, but why do I feel that youā€™d still be liable in this situation. Hypothetical of course hahaha but still. Curious of opinions / does it different greatly state to state?
