Is anybody aware of a good resource in learning about basic business management of finances?

I'm not particularly interested in starting a business though I want to learn about what is involved so I can have the option available.

I have friends working off ABN's as sole traders and see them regularly learning more about what they should be doing, I would preferably like to know before I begin.

I have looked at the ATOs website though unfortunately the information is spoon fed in a way you are redirected too often.

I thought about actual courses, for example a cert in Business though from what I read in the units it doesn't particularly cover this.

I'm interested in the factors of tax, gst and general required reporting.
