Is renting a room paying cash only dodgy?
Post Body

I’m in my mid twenties and fairly new to the Sydney rental market.

Currently I’ve signed a 6 month rental agreement to rent a room.

But it’s ending and I’ve lined a new room to rent with this guy in a 2 bedroom. He wants me to pay cash only and a bond.

Of course I’ll get something in writing for a cash bond. But I wondering whether paying cash weekly for a room is common? Or is it dodgy?

Seems like one of those things that can be pretty shady where I’m not covered, or back up by writing that I’m renting?

What do you guys think?

Thanks.
