Post Body

I'm 34 and working in tourism as a guide on just under 70k/yr before tips and bonuses. I work 8 days/fortnight.

It's a great job, i can honeslty say that when i get up in the morning i'm happy to be going to work. But 70k just isn't cutting it anymore and there's not much career progression for tour guides or in tourism generally. So I just don't really know which way to turn.

Given that I only work 4days per week there is potential to get a 2nd job, as a guide Idrive buses up to 60 seats so I could look into anything involving heavy vehicles.

The other option is to use that spare time to study, but I'm hesitant to commit to a long uni degree at my age. If I did it would need to be a degree for a specific job.

But I just don't really know where to even start looking.

FIFO isn't really suitable for me at the moment as my wife is pregnant.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or thoughts on industries or roles that offer a good outlook and don't require super lengthy uni degrees. I'm not expecting to walk into a 150k/yr position but rather a field that offers good prospects of career progession without needing 4-5yrs of study to get a foot in the door.
