The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) which prohibited states from legalizing sports betting. The court determined the PASPA was a constitutional overreach of the Federal government commandeering the individual state legislatiure's rights.
The Federal government would have to write and enforce it's own law to ban sports gambling. It cannot direct states to do so.
The affect of this on Augur is indirect but it is a move in a positive direction for a significant portion of the markets that are likely to be created on the Augur platform. It leans further towards acceptance and away from potential legal issues.
