Hello everyone. My system is not actually audiophile worthy, but I'd like to ask for your help to solve a problem I'm facing with my turntable.
My turntable is a Project Primary, the pre-phono is a Project PhonoBox MM and it is plugged into a pair of Edifier R1280T active speakers. The cartridge is an Ortofon OM 5E.
The issue is that I hear a strange sound like some kind of feedback, very high pitched, sort of like a whistle or like crickets chirping and it is very annoying. It is not permanent, but comes and goes without any actual regularity. Sometimes I also hear this noise when there is no record playing. At first I thought it was the speakers, but then I tried connecting my phone and there was no noise. I unplugged the turntable from the preamp and still no noise. If I connect the ground cable to the preamp without connecting the RCA cables of the turntable I can hear the noise. I connected my phone to the preamp (just to see wether it was the preamp or the turntable, I didn't play any music) and again no noise. I think it can be something related to the turntable but I have no clue what it might be. I tried to move it away from the speakers in case it was some Larsen effect, but there is still the noise.
I recorded the sound: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eBC2xzKnaodBcuoKOAne9U5_p3hNouSJ/view?usp=drivesdk
I hope you can help me! Thank you!
