Are all USB mics worthless for DIY ADR recording?
Post Body

So I’m a “microbudget” (read: broke) filmmaker. Probably about 2-3 times a year I need to do a little bit of home ADR recording. Typically I’ll rent an XLR mic from Sharegrid and record into my Zoom recorder.

Obviously it would make the process a lot simpler to record directly into my computer / editing software, but for that I’d need an audio interface. And if I’m going to be renting both a mic and an audio interface that frequently, it seems much more cost effective to just buy something outright.

My budget is about $150.

I’ve been looking at options for USB mics (like the Blue Yeti or Audio-Technica AT2020USB ) as a way of keeping the cost down and simplifying the process. But I realize these are more designed for streamers, podcasters and YouTubers than for professional vocal recording.

Are there any affordable USB mics you’d consider “good enough” for ADR? And if not, what are the best XLR mic audio interface combos in my price range?
