So a friend of mine has recently read this, twice. Once in french, and again later in English. I enjoyed the french version much as I enjoy modern art: without comprehension. I was fine with that and enjoyed the words I didn't understand, but more recently, she read the translated version, and I frankly went to pieces.
"I must record this," I said to myself.
Everyone who has ever loved, knows the forlorn longing that is unrequited love, and this poem so beautifully expressed the doubts and anguish of a young love who gave without partaking. It was moving, and I can only hope my reading, my performance can convey the piece as poignantly.
I'd suggest keeping a tissue or a napkin at hand.
