Summary: The listener has always had a crush on their best friend but when they confessed to him, he rejected them. They still decided to remain best friends but few months later, things started to change for the speaker. The listener is currently hosting a house party where they meet a cute guy and start talking to them. They feel a spark creating between them until their best friend interrupts their conversation abruptly, making the listener furious. They take him to a room to confront him which breaks out into a messy fight, costing them more than they thought.

Setting: Listener's home, with a party going on in the background sfx

[Door opens and closes sfx]

[Confused] What?

(Pause)

[Angry] What do you mean what was that? What was what?

(Pause)

[Exclaims] I was just trying to save you from that creepy guy! You looked like you needed to get away from him so I came to your rescue. Like always.

(Pause)

You didn't need that? What do you mean?

(Pause)

[Sarcastic] You were having a good time with him? [Scoffs] Sure.

(Pause)

[Dismissive] Nothing.

(Pause)

I said nothing.

(Pause)

[Frustrated] I told you why I did that. How many times are you going to ask me the same question? I thought you needed to get away from him!

(Pause)

Were you really having a good time with him?

(Pause)

Seriously? That guy?

(Pause)

No, I just don't think he's right for you. I was trying to protect you.

(Pause)

[Yells] Yes, you do need me to protect you. I have been your best friend since...I don't know we were babies? Every decision you take involves me, every time you're out, I chaperone you. When a guy creeps you out while you're walking on the street alone at night, I'm the one who drives there to take you home. Every time you're upset I'm the one that comforts you so yes, you do need me to protect you and when I see you talking to a guy, I get protective and I can't help it!

(Pause)

[Embarrassed] Yes I'm done.

[Hesitant] What's wrong with him? Yeah I'll tell you what's wrong with him. He's wrong for you, because...he- [Sighs] He just is, okay?

It's not that I don't want you to be with any guy but all those guys out there, they're scumbags. They won't treat you right, I just know it!

(Pause)

You're leaving? Are you going back to him? No wait! [Sighs] Fine, I'll tell you the truth. Just, come sit here on the bed with me. Please?

I... can't see you, with anyone else. It tears my heart apart when I see you holding hands or being intimate with another guy. I don't want you to date anyone, because I want you to date...me.

I regret doing that okay? I know I hurt you, a lot. I shouldn't have said no. I should've been clear that I needed time to see if I could develop those kind of feelings for you. And I'm sorry but please, let's give this a chance. I really do like you.

I know, I know I abandoned you and I'm sorry. I could not feel worse about that, okay? When you confessed to me, I was in a different mindset. You know how emotionally unstable I was. I could not afford to have a girlfriend at that time. Everything was a mess.

Yes, you helped me through those times and I'm so grateful for that. But just because you helped me get out of that miserable phase did not mean that I had to date you. I want to date you now because you make me happy. Look at how great we are together.

[You walk closer to the listener]

[Listener shoves you harshly on your shoulder]

[Angry] What the hell? What did you push me for? For saying the truth?

[Confused] How can you say no to this? You were practically begging me to date you six months ago and out of nowhere now you think you have moved on?

(Pause)

[Soft] No, you were not pathetic. Don't talk about yourself like that. You are smart, and beautiful and I admire you so much. I was an idiot back then but I see it now. You are perfect for me and I am perfect you.

(Pause)

[Regretful] That...I did not know. You really went through that because of me?

(Pause)
