Looking for advice, sorry for the long wall of text. I may have an opportunity soon to buy a (would be my first) 2014 S4 premium plus with 113k miles, and alot of those were road trips to Florida and back. I know the seller pretty well and know he has meticulously maintained it up to this point. He's the original owner and it's been garage (climate controlled) kept its entire life, even while not being used the past 2-3 years. Remote work was the main cause of not using the car as much, and he has a couple other vehicles. The car has not been modified, came with the B&O sound and 19" tires, as well as other upgrades. He knows it needs new tires and the 115k service, and would either get those completed or factor into the pricing. I would get a full pre-purchase inspection of course and then discuss anything that came out of that. It has not had the waterpump, PCV, or anything else major replaced yet. He does have receipts of all work done, I haven't gone through those myself yet but have gone through the Carfax history.
My big worry is should I even consider a car that has sat for that long, even if in a climate controlled garage? What things should I make sure get looked at during the inspection?
Sitting is the death of all vehicles. They need to have their fluids moving or…bad news. Brake lines can clog/rot, fuel lines disintegrate, gas tanks and fuel pumps clog, if it’s a manual it shares the same brake fluid. Then there’s the tires that shouldn’t be sitting that long in one spot. I would hard pass. I own a 2013 Prestige but it’s never sat more than a few weeks without putting some miles on.
