Question of this rectangle hole on B8 S4

Snapped my control arm and when taking it off I was checking to see if there was any other damage and saw this when checking the differential, Anyone know if it’s supposed to see the flywheel like that or am I missing something that goes there? Pics of control arm at the end. Thanks if someone can answer this.
