Hey all,
So I just had my second audiology appointment under the NHS and I was told that in the UK there's essentially no way for an adult to get an APD diagnosis? The NHS barely does anything with APD, and all they do is around kids. All the research is being done in America apparently and there's not enough studies for the NHS to be convinced.
There's 1 clinc in London she said that can do assessments for children, but that's about it. I asked about any private assessments but she isn't aware of anything. She's going to look into all that for me though, but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with this?
She said there is a private way to get hearing aids designed for processing, however it's £2k for the aids, and then more ontop for the microphone apparently the companies have designed it so you need to buy new ones every couple years.. I don't know if I want to spend that much on something I don't even know will work for me.
I was hoping to get an official diagnosis of some kind (she even said judging by what I've said, I most likely do have some form of APD and it's not just my ADHD) as currently I'm battling a PIP decision and need proof towards that alongside having something to shove into the faces of those that demand a telephone call..
Sorry for the long post, but just hoping someone here has some experience and advice. Even any helpful charities or anything like that would be nice. Or anyone who travelled to America to get a diagnosis, how was it seen in the UK, how much was it, where'd you have to go, etc.
