Hi everyone! I just wanted to make a post about cross stitching and why I think this is a great hobby for those who have AuDHD.
Little background: late diagnosed here (early 30s). Have dealt with the typical “I want to do all of the things” when it comes to hobbies only to have them fall off the map after the initial dopamine hike. Have seen improvement in managing my anxiety, focus, and the ability to actually relax since picking cross stitching up.
Why I think it is a perfect fit for this community:
- You can find fabric, needles and thread anywhere in the world
- You can make small things to huge things.
- Soooooo many patterns
- Sooooo many colors
- You can have multiple projects going at once without too much space being taken over (rotating through multiple when boredom eventually hits is great, and eventually you do finish projects)
- Feeds the artistic side
- Hands are doing something while the brain is unspooling
- Can do it in silence or with music playing
- Disconnects you from technology
- Soooo many techniques and interesting history.
- Can increase the level of difficulty with ease.
- Is easy to transport so you can take it with you to help ground you (work on a break, waiting room, travel, etc)
I could add more but I’ll stop here. Happy to chat and answer questions, or help you get started.
