To the Honorable General Secretary of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Comrade Nikita Khrushchev
Representing the workers and the oppressed in El Salvador, I, Comandante Simón of the FUAR, write to you regarding our struggle against the imperialist-backed Dictatorship of Colonel Julio Rivera. Much like the Cubans before us, we are fighting as guerrilleros, relying on popular support to help topple Rivera's regime. My fellow countrymen and women look to the example of the Soviet Union as the shining beacon for humanity. After learning of Comrade Gagarin’s heroic flight into the unknown, we were awed at the might of your people’s space program. I speak for the whole of the workers in El Salvador when I congratulate you for such a great achievement.
However, we are fighting against strong odds. The Cuban revolution gives us hope, and Comrade Che’s new book has been read by our men and women as a guide for our revolution. One thing we lack, however, is arms. We’ve already seen support from Cuba, and would now like to extend a request to the Soviet Union. Should our revolution be successful, the liberation of all of Latin America may very well be possible. We ask that the Soviet Union grants us aid in this trying time, for such a thing would surely be in the better interests of the international movement for workers and oppressed peoples against the threat of imperialism.
Fraternalmente,
Comandante Simón
Secretario General del Frente Unido de Acción Revolucionaria
