He is a good not quite great overall 3 point shooter. His deep 3 has a slightly different motion from his regular 3, unlike Dame and Steph. Therefore he needs more space to get it off but he hits it at an insane rate and he has no conscious about shooting it. Because of that you have to press him as soon as he get across half-court with and it has to be with someone who is big or he will pass over them. But he has handles so that defender has to be big AND quick or he will get past them into the lane.

Let's say you don't have that guy and you have a rim protector, Trae doesn't care he has the best floater since Tony Parker and can shoot it at effectively from any angle inside the arc. And if your big comes over too fast to pick him up, Trae will pass it to the rim for an easy shot. Trae doesn't have the footwork of Tatum or Luka, the height to get a great shot from anywhere like KD, the quick release of Steph but he presents problems for opposing defenses that no other player in the league does
