Edit: Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who responded...we've got a lot more to think about now!
My wife and I are starting to search for a house to buy and settle down in, and Pittsburgh has come up as an area we can actually afford an updated house in that is close to things we are interested in (Beltline, Pittsburgh Yards, Lee White, family in Summerhill, etc.)
What is it like living in the neighborhood? Specifically, how loud does it get in the evenings and on the weekends? Neither one of us wants to listen to heavy bass inside/outside our house. Living in areas where college kids party at a Big 10 school has definitely solidified that. We've driven through there a little bit, and while it is obviously a street by street basis we feel like we could be comfortable living there if we found a house we loved.
We are also aware that Pittsburgh is at the center of the gentrification battle in Atlanta. Driving around the area and standing/walking around the house we looked at over the weekend we definitely noticed we were getting some looks. Does it get better once you move in and start getting to know some of the people who live around you? We'd like to be part of/involved in whichever community we move into, Pittsburgh or otherwise.
