I own a bike, but only really ride it to the belt line, then up and down.
While I'm getting there, I stop at EVERY stop sign, and treat it as if I'm one of the cars in the 4-way queue.
As a driver, I will put it out there that most cyclists are great, and I have never actually had a verbal altercation with them. However, I have had some experiences (especially in the O4W/Krog St Market/L5P areas) where cyclists completely ignore red lights and stop signs.
This results in near-collisions when I think it's my turn to go at a 4-way stop, or near-collisions when I'm trying to turn right on red, thinking I've already yielded and I'm clear. Then a cyclist blows through and I feel like I look like an asshole.
Am I missing any etiquette here? Are cyclists exempt from certain stop signs in neighborhoods? Not being an asshole, I really want to be as informed as possible in a city where we're striving to co-exist no matter how you commute (and when the city doesn't do much to help the cyclists through infrastructure).
