Are black items better fabric or is quality down this much

I’m so sad! I got my first Athleta item in 2021 and it was salutation joggers in black. I love them so much and when the joggers went on sale recently I decided to order the new shale color. The color is gorgeous but the moment I put them on they felt so thin compared to what I knew. They are not as soft or thick but maybe black is different? Can’t decide if it’s worth it they just are not the same:( I did wear the black ones today (from 2021) and can tell a noticeable difference
