Is there a limit to making alchemy items above my level? Or is it just lower chances of success?

I am playing Atelier Totori and I am 13 levels below the speed gloves, but have the materials to make them. Am I able to even with my level so much lower? I know the success rate will be harsh but I am just wondering if it is possible to success if I saved prior etc?
