Using the modern controller on an Xbox series x??

I finally got my VCS! I switched the controller to xbox mode (by holding back and context menu button)
The light blinks...but the xbox wireless won't pick it up....not will it recognize it as a wired controller.
Anyone have any luck getting it to work on an Xbox? To be honest the atari controller is more comfortable....it may go down in history as the best controller ever in my book.
